Helen Lake

This 7.4-mile hike through subalpine terrain turned out to be a little muddier and snowier than we were prepared for. And while it did make us feel tough, we weren't quite prepared to tackle the shrouded Cirque Peak after reaching the icy lakeside.

An ice-covered Helen Lake. At this point it started to rain, so we decided to head back down instead of continuing up toward the cloudy Cirque Peak scramble.

The trails are so well-maintained in Banff and Jasper that stream crossings always had perfectly placed boulders for hopping across!
