Playing with the new camera

We bought a new Canon Powershot S5 IS in preparation for our trip to China. It's got a bit more zoom than our trusty Elph (12x vs 2x), it's also a bit heftier. Between the two cameras we should have all the bases covered!

The First Photo!! And we didn't even break the camera! (but we forgot to use the flash!)

Hmm. Maybe G should zoom out a bit.

Skulkin' around.

The best part about a zoom lens is we can't even see what she's reading. Could be Shakespeare, could be a learned treatise of epidemiology. Could be a trashy romance novel. We'll never know.

Widest angle shot on the venerable elph. (35mm equivalent of 35mm)

Highest telephoto zoom of the venerable elph (2x zoom or 35mm equivalent of 70mm)

Widest angle shot of our new camera. (35mm equivalent is 36mm)

img_0061.jpg

Highest telephoto end of the new camera's zoom. (12x zoom or 35mm equivalent of 432mm)

img_0062.jpg

Full zoom with digital zoom (48x zoom or 35mm equivalent of 864mm). Not especially useful because of the quality degradation.

Bill's first attempt at playing with a shallow depth of field (keeping the subject in focus but the background less-so)

Still playing. The blackeyed susans are not amused. They'd rather be watered.

It might be time to clean the grill. It's looking a bit dirty.
