NYS Bar Admissions Ceremony
January 26, 2005 in Albany, New York
We had a whirlwind trip to Albany for Bill's swearing-in ceremony, one of his last steps to becoming a full-fledged lawyer. All that remains is for him to waive into the DC Bar, an administrative process which will take about six more months, and then he can practice law here in Washington. Well, except for the fact that his current job with the DC Bar Counsel doesn't allow him to represent anyone, as it would be a conflict of interest for him to be investigating ethical misconduct among DC lawyers while actively practicing DC law!
The noontime ceremony was relatively short considering 639 other lawyers were being sworn in, and every single name was read aloud by the Court Clerk. Apparently, this was the largest number of lawyers to be sworn in simultaneously, not just in all of New York State history, but ever nationally!
Times Union newspaper article
Despite the fact that we spent less than 24 hours in Albany, we did get the chance to have a wonderful visit with Frank. We sat and talked for almost two hours before heading over to relax for a little while with Gretchen and Nikki, and then back to the airport for the journey home! It was so wonderful to share the celebrations with so many friends and family -- Thank you!
