Day Four: Miyajima

We took a ferry to Miyajima and spent the day exploring the island. We spent time at the floating shrine (Itsukushima-jinja), which was built on the water because commoners were not allowed to set foot on the island, but were given access to the holy shrine. The torii (gate) in the water is billed as one of the most beautiful sights in Japan and it didn't dissappoint. Miyajima is home to countless "wild" deer. Bill made many friends. We also hiked to the top of Mount Misen and had a magnificent view.
