Sandpipers!

These little guys were the original reason we planned our trip. In late summer, millions of sandpipers stop at the Bay of Fundy to eat mud shrimp living in the tidal mud flats. After doubling their body mass, these small birds will catch favorable wind currents and fly non-stop to South America over the Atlantic Ocean. These pictures don't capture the scale of how many birds were on the beach but the Canadian Park Service estimated that there were 15,000 birds on this small stretch of beach. It was amazing to watch thousands of birds fly in unison. They looked like a rapidly moving cloud.
